- click the Synaptic icon in Ubuntu-dock
- - when Synaptic starts click cancel
+ - when the password dialog appears, click Cancel
- click the Synaptic icon in Ubuntu-dock
Synaptic will not start
It's possible to start Synaptic from the terminal
