Running into the same problem with both Ubuntu and Kubuntu on an older
HP 8200 Elite SFF. Core i5 2400 box. Have set the blank SSD to IDE
and ACHI mode, used defaults in Rufus to create the USB stick for

Ummm... => the X.org powered 18.04 does not support fractional display scaling?
Or am I missing anything?

I can confirm that the display scale setting "200%" causes a crash in
ubiquity. I have a 4K display. The first thing I do after Ubuntu boots
from Live USB is to adjust the

Found out for me, that if GNOME uses scaling 200% the installer crashed
at loading of the images which say Welcome to Ubuntu, etc. Try using a
100% DISPLAY scaling and no issues during installing.

I think it is not related to UEFI...
It is related to GPT disk type.
Beacuse my friend installed in uefi mode but it doesn't have gpt disk
type. The one another reason of this bug to relate to GPT beacuse
installer crashing in my virtual machine too(which also have gpt).

I'm experiencing this same problem. I can't install Ubuntu 18.04 or
Kubuntu 18.04. The installer crashes, or reports that grub cannot be
installed and then crashes.
