All gnome apps text areas seem to get messy when using
I can also mention that changing my theme from Ambiance to Adwaita
removed the issue. All the other accounts use Ambiance so there must be
user level settings that is triggering this.

I'm no longer certain this is nemo related as I found one account with
Nemo and without the problem.

I also checked updating to a newer version (3.8.4-1~bionic0) of nemo
using the cinnamon ppa mentioned in the link in my description and it
had no effect.
