I have ati mobility radeon x1400 on dell with Ubuntu 8.04. This bug is SO disappointing. Other than looking at powerpoints, all I do on my computer is watch movies. CRAPPY rendering without OpenGL was such a turn-off for me. I like everything else about Ubuntu, especially Compiz effects. Thus,
