Unfortunately, I can't understand your problem. In fact if I press the UP arrow
I can see all my previous commands. Can you please be more specific?

Okay, I looked closer. If only python24-minimal is installed, I get
this bug, however, if python2.4 is installed, too, it is okay. Since I
don't really understand the package structure, I can't tell whether it's
a bug or installing only python2.4-minimal is simply a bad idea.

If you don't install the complete python interpreter it's not a bad idea but of
course you will lose some utilities.
For this reason I close this bug report, but please feel free to reopen it
