Thank you, I was also able to reproduce the problem using the same
version of mplayer, so I will mark this bug as Confirmed.

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue

What version were you working with? There have been some changes in
recent (Hardy) packages that will affect this behavior.
