Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I'm installting Ubuntu 7.10 with preseed over network.

>From
>https://help.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu/installation-guide/i386/preseed-contents.html:
"The passwd/root-password-crypted and passwd/user-password-crypted variables
can also be preseeded with “!” as their value. In that case, the corresponding
account is disabled."

I think this should be true for 7.10 too. (The installation document
doesn't seem to exist for 7.10)

relevant part of my preseed.cfg:
d-i passwd/make-user boolean false
d-i passwd/root-login boolean true
d-i passwd/root-password-crypted password !

So, the root password should be disabled (e.g. set to !). But it does
not work: The Ubuntu/Debian Installer interrupts the automatic
installation and asks me for a root passwort interactively instead of
disabling the root account.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
