Packages/files during the Alpha/Beta releases moved about, that's why the 
instructions said to remove old packages before installing the new ones.
However, this problem should not occur with the 4.0.0 release and subsequent 
updates.

I found the problem : it was due to some kde4 meta packages not
compatibles that were installed and had to be removed to install new
packages.
