The problem here is that the pci id 168c:001c is listed as an alias for ath_hal. This causes ath_hal to be loaded instead of ath5k. If ath_hal does not support this device, then this pci id must be removed from modules.alias.override/ath_hal Fixing this should make things work out of the box
