Yes I've just checked. It is indeed the numlock problem. I never noticed
it because I usually keep my numlock on all the time.

Hyperair, I think you are actually seeing a duplicate of bug #182704 and
this could be checked by disabling NumLock. Do your volume keys work
now? If so, it's 182704. I'm still not marking this as a duplicate,
since for me Ctrl+Alt+Whatever works even with NumLock enabled. In any
case, this bug

Okay I've tried with a Hardy Alpha-3, tested my volume keys, which
worked, then added universe, multiverse repositories, then upgraded all
the packages (sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade), logged out,
logged back in, and voila, non-working media keys. So since I've proved

Sound, Desktop, etc. but empty?
I've been switching to Hardy and lost many default properties. I had to
reinstall Gnome, Metacity, and some X properties. Now it's a bit better

Heh your problem seems way worse than mine. I've got my sections..Sound,
Desktop and Window Management, and all of them have stuff. I can also set
and unset shortcuts there. They just don't work.
