fixed in Ubuntu Focal and later. Marking as fix released in Ubuntu as
well.

Investigating further, the fix suggested in the Debian bug report works
to restore the password prompt for msmtp.
However, it still doesn't read the password saved into gnome-keyring
saved using secret-tool as described here:
