lubuntu groovy daily qa-test (live) on
hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
on changing displays to match my config I had this issue occur.
I slipped with mouse & dropped dvi-i-2 higher than intended & it

on reboot however on altering the monitor settings to match setup had

had this occur as I tried (live daily QA-test) to arrange displays, and
wrongly set my top-display at bottom, and my-bottom display as top one,
one screen was black the other had half the wallpaper..

daily test on hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600) again
I modified displays to match my setup (vertical, one screen above the other)
logged out to try using openbox for a quick test; logout of openbox
logged back into Lubuntu and
- my-top display had no wallpaper
- my-bottom displa
