I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 and I don't have this issue with
Pidgin.

The symptoms described above started happening for me after reinstalling
Ubuntu. I created a new user account (using a different username than
my previous one) and copied my home folder from my old machine. I ran
the following to try to sync the ownership and permissions, but I
suspect I missed
I had the same problem and after much fooling around I found on my
system it was caused by the evolution integration plugin.how I
solved the problem
1) delete the ~/.purple folder (after backing up the log subfolder to
keep all my old recorded conversations
2) restart pidgin, setting it back
I have the same problem. I don't know if it's just with one of my
accounts on MSN or with both of them, but my task bar fills up with pop
ups asking me the question. Then some contacts appear without name, just
their MSN address. It happens every time I start Pidgin.
I'm using Pidgin 2.4.1 on
