Ben, upon checking what's in Debian, it seems that from what you found
to be missing, only the org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties GetAll was
missing but that seems to be harmless AFAICT. Access to the
org.freedesktop.Secret.Service interface was added in 1.8.8-1.
That said, you made me try msmtp-gnom
Ben, you are right in that msmtp-gnome cannot access Gnome keyring
directly. I can also confirm that your Apparmor changes work and make
sense. I'll propose them to the Debian maintainer tomorrow, thanks!

This issue does not appear to be fully fixed in `msmtp version 1.8.6` on focal.
Although the workaround of calling `secret-tool` works, direct access to the
keyring via `dbus` fails due to missing permissions in the AppArmor profile:

I upgraded to focal in the meantime.
Now msmtp is asking for password. Password is still retrieveable via
`secret-tool`. The output of the command you asked me to invoke is empty
(I tried to send a few mails, sometimes interrupting, sometimes giving
the password, and then executed the command)
