Tested xsane and xsane-common version 0.999-8ubuntu2.1 The file xsane-startimage.pnm is now in the directory /usr/share/sane/xsane. There were no complaints about missing images on startup. Have the same problem: (Ubuntu 20.04) [xsane] ERROR: xsane-startimage not found. Looks like xsane is not installed correct.
