Just resolved this issue. Apparently the g710+ keyboard has a game button that disables the windows (super) key. Sorry for the bother. The key worked fine for the past couple years until last week, and the super keys are the only keys that are not working now. Seems unlikely to be hardware. Please install 'evtest' and then run: sudo evtest and select the keyboard.
