It's also possible there's no problem with the keyboard hardware and you just have the "Sticky Keys" feature turned on by accident. That's the wrong menu. Please turn this option ON: Always Show Universal Access Menu and then access the menu via the Gnome Shell top bar. It sounds like your keyboard Ctrl key is stuck down, which will cause both the tabs problem and the zoom in/out problem. Please tap the Ctrl keys on your keyboard several times in case one is stuck. I've been going through this problem since I left Windows and came to Ubuntu Linux. My computer is not running smoothly. There are all kinds of problems. I can't think of anything to do.
