[Bug 1890436] Re: VGA signal is ghosted and stretched (Intel® HD Graphics 2500)

2020-08-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes I do understand why you might call that corruption.

Actually you didn't need to enable DRM debugging. It looks like there
are a few errors coming from the Intel kernel graphics driver 'i915'.
Those might be separate to the FIFO underrun errors, which other people
also report in bug 1550779.

The problems reported in your kernel log seem to relate to atomic mode
setting, which is what the 'modeset' Xorg driver uses. Wayland sessions
don't use that interface to Intel graphics so it's likely that logging
into 'Ubuntu on Wayland' will avoid some (or all) of the problem.

[Bug 1890436] Re: VGA signal is ghosted and stretched (Intel® HD Graphics 2500)

2020-08-06 Thread Ioannis Barkas
Well this is a PC with onboard intel graphics. A memory issue would mean
RAM problem which is not the case here. I can see a visual corruption.
If you can't see it then there is nothing more to say here.

You are welcomed to see the dmesg and figure out what happens. There is
no hardware damage on my PC. This occurs with a specific BIOS setting as
I described above and it affects only ubuntu. Windows 10 2004 work fine
on my "damaged" PC. If you wish to get a screenshot from windows working
fine, I can upload it here.

I might test wayland at the evening but linux kernel detects the problem
and shouts about underrun error in FIFO A as the first attached image
with dmesg shows. So if you have anything usefull to write that is
related to this bug report, please do so. If you just continue to say
that my hardware is damaged you are free to close this bug right away. I
will try another distro and open another bug there...

It might be that there's some minor damage to the VGA port on the
machine. It might be so minor you can't even see it :(
