I found a regression of mutter. * xrandr-scaling: Never try to set invalid screen sizes (LP: #1889090) 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 works fine. I just noticed that, inside the login screen, making text larger (using the top-right accessibility menu option) and toggling it back to its normal size, makes the ellipsis disappear. I've been reading bug #1892521, and someone suggests issuing two dconf commands as a workaround.
