[Bug 1906913] Re: IRQ conflict between Ethernet and USB with linux 5.4.0-56-lowlatency kernel

2020-12-15 Thread Ross Gammon
There is a new version 5.4.0-59.65 on -proposed that could be tested.
Bit busy at the moment.

[Bug 1906913] Re: IRQ conflict between Ethernet and USB with linux 5.4.0-56-lowlatency kernel

2020-12-15 Thread Ross Gammon
Reopening this as the latest update to linux-image-5.4.0.58.lowlatency
reintroduces this bug. Starting the linux-image-5.4.0.57.lowlatency
kernel from grub gets around the issue.

For a short working replacement at the moment. I am now using the
"linux-image-5.4.0-58-generic". Without any problems.

[Bug 1906913] Re: IRQ conflict between Ethernet and USB with linux 5.4.0-56-lowlatency kernel

2020-12-08 Thread Oliver K.
I tested the proposed kernel (-57.63) on two systems for a whole day.
The problem was solved with the proposed kernel on this machine.

By the way. It also solves a USB problem on my main machine.
All USB ports have dropped out sporadically there with (-56.62).
Until a restart. The only way to revive the computer was to turn the power off.
As a side effect. I now have a SMART error on a new 3TB WD RED hard drive.

Note on the edge:
This is what happens when something doesn't work or when it is released
without actually testing it. Testing needs time!

Otherwise it works now. Thank you.

I also tested the Arturia AudioFuse USB on both machines. Works
perfectly.

Because this way (reporting it against the package) DOES report it to
the correct team. Ubuntu does stuff automatically so you don't have to.

And the USB audio device works as well with 5.4.0-57.63 . Marking the
bug as "Fix Released". When this kernel migrates from proposed into the
updates pocket, the bug will be fixed.

It will be necessary to select the 5.4.0-54-lowlatency in the Grub menu
in order to have the internet to be able to update to 5.4.0-57.63.

2020-12-05 Thread Ross Gammon
I have not looked into the reason what happened in 5.4.0-56-lowlatency
kernel to cause the problem, but I can confirm that installing version
5.4.0-57.63 from focal-proposed fixes the problem.

I have my network back! I am yet to test my USB audio card.

[Bug 1906913] Re: IRQ conflict between Ethernet and USB with linux 5.4.0-56-lowlatency kernel

2020-12-05 Thread Oliver K.
It's not just me who reported this. Is also in askubuntu:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1296943/irq-conflict-between-ethernet-
port-and-usb-2-controller-with-linux-5-4-0-56-lowl

Because that has nothing to do with Ubuntu Studio alone. I reported it
here under linux (ubuntu).

For the “Ubuntu Kernel Team” a short question?

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam refers to:

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is in Launchpad as:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel-team this is the moderated
public team in which we interact with the Ubuntu Community.

Why is it not possible to report a bug directly to the "Ubuntu Kernel
Team". Even if that's such an old page. why is this not deleted?

[Bug 1906913] Re: IRQ conflict between Ethernet and USB with linux 5.4.0-56-lowlatency kernel

2020-12-05 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
As this issue is not specific to Ubuntu Studio, and since this has *not*
been verified by anybody but the bug reporter, I removed Ubuntu Studio
Developers from this bug and changed it to "New".

The lowlatency kernel has many, many more use cases than audio, hence it
is no longer developed or managed by the Ubuntu Studio team. This is an
Ubuntu kernel issue completely, and in no way should the Ubuntu Studio
Development team be involved here as that is too much workload on an
already strained and low-numbered team.
