I have the same problem on a desktop with kernel 5.8.0-44-generic and
Intel HD Graphics (Celeron G1840). The system boots normally, but GUI
freezes after clicking on any icon (only the GUI crashes, you can still
access the system by ssh).

Status: Incomplete
Mainline apparently does not have zfs modules, this is a root-on-zfs
system.
However I tried 5.4.0-65 from the repository, which indeed does not show
this problem.
