I upgraded 16.04 -> 18.04 -> 20.04. 20.04 operates fine.

No. It seems ext4 is from the previous attempt. SSD does not have my
information. There were several attempt with several physical disk. One
SSD was new just from a shop. The same way with 16.04 is OK.

The simplest option: erase and install. One SSD.

The beginning of the kernel log shows an existing ext4 filesystem with
errors, are you trying to reuse this filesystem instead of reformatting
it prior to install?

The root error in your log appears to be:

Feb 27 18:05:02 ubuntu ubiquity: update-initramfs: Generating
/boot/initrd.img-5.8.0-25-generic
Feb 27 18:05:08 ubuntu kernel: [  434.996976] EXT4-fs error (device sda2):
ext4_lookup:1707: inode #3675785: comm cryptroot: iget: checksum invalid
Feb 27 18:05:08 ubuntu kernel: [  434.997716] Aborting journal on device sda2-8.
Feb 27 18:05:08 ubuntu kernel: [  434.998398] EXT4-fs (sda2): Remounting
filesystem read-only

What options are you choosing when installing?
