the gtk issues are fixed in 2.2ubuntu10; we can't and we won't fix the
installation of old system libraries by third party packages.

For the pixbuf loader issue, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/205223
The short story is that the gtk patch is still here but was modified in
a way that makes it not to load the 32bit loaders.

gtk-2.0 had a patch to look for loaders in /usr/lib32, was it removed or
doesn't work anymore?

Installed ia32-libs 2.2ubuntu8. Same error (but now also complains about
GCC 3.4):
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1:
version `GCC_3.4' not found (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s
just remove /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1
vmware is wrong about installing an outdated libgcc_s.so.1 if a newer one is
available on the system.

Similar bug here too, on Hardy 64:
/usr/lib/vmware-server/bin/vmware:
/usr/lib/vmware-server/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information
available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)
/usr/lib/vmware-server/bin/vmware:
/usr/lib/vmware-server/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1: versio
Similar bug with vmware-server 1.0.5 on hardy 64 (only I'm not getting
warnings about libpng12):
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1:
version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.6)
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgc
Just want to comment I have the same bug with vmware-server 1.0.4 on
hardy 64
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no
version information available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s
a new ia32 was put available today -- 2.2ubuntu7. Although pitti had not
marked this bug as resolved, well, it would not hurt me to test it. I
did not hurt indeed, and indeed the update did not solve it.
Problem still exists.

I can confirm this. I am seeing exactly the same error message. Same
ia32-libs, same vmware-server.
