[Bug 194924] Re: Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57
Confirm. It'd be very useful to have the updated package. However, (this is probably not the best way to do it, but...) a work around that I am currently using to sync directories on various machines with various versions of unison is to simply mount the directories to be synced via sshfs. And then use unison to sync the two directories. Syncing through sshfs (though i've seen people advise against it) treats unison as if it was syncing two directories on the same machine, so the other machine's version of unison does not even enter into the picture. This does require the following option to be used when mounting: [machine]# sshfs -o workaround=rename [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/username/ mountname/ then to sync a directory named Desktop on the remote node to a directory named Local on your local machine you # unison mountname/Desktop /home/username/Local This definitely has its drawbacks, as you have to have already mounted a directory on the remote machine before you can sync... but it works. -- Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 194924] Re: Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57
Dapper, Fiesty, and Gutsy are still supported. For backports unless a user requests it, Feisty and Gutsy won't get done (virtually all non-LTS users upgrade, so these releases are not so important for backports). For Dapper, the package won't build without changes on Dapper's tool chain. If someone can figure out what to do to make it work, then it can be backoprted, but until then, no. -- Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

how odd! i was very happy after upgrading to hardy (from feisty) on my server where both laptops (one hardy, the other gutsy) still sync'ed fine with the server. notice the past-tense. yesterday, my server installed the new version of unison. thing is, my hardy laptop refuses to think there's been an update. now, both laptops won't sync. not that i expect the gutsy one to, obviously. just confused as to why however many times i perform dist-upgrade, my hardy laptop refuses to update unison. now nothing syncs. oh well. robert -- Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 194924] Re: Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57
What about dapper backports? I vaguely remember hearing something about dapper having an extra long support cycle... Ok, found it. This is the first maintenance release of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, which continues to be supported with maintenance updates and security fixes until June 2009 (on desktops) and June 2011 (on servers). I think this qualifies as a maintenance release, considering every other platform that I am aware of has upgraded to a version that's no longer compatible with the one dapper is using, and I'm fairly certain that 2011 hasn't arrived yet. grin -- Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 194924] Re: Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57
I tried to incorporate the unison deb-package from Debian unstable into a Ubuntu 8.04 installation, but it didn't work because of unfullfilled dependencies. I didn't try to fix those, as my experience shows that this typically leads to a snowball-effect which would force me to upgrade lots of packages - not a good idea. What we would need as a workaround would be a backport of the stable version of unison to Ubuntu, but I'm afraid I can't provide that. [Bug 194924] Re: Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57
Its unfortunate this didn't make it into Hardy. Until this update makes it into the ubuntu repositories, has anyone tried using Debian packages? The list of files seem identical for the i386. I'm new to this, but I was always under the impression that each ubuntu release is modified from a recent version of Debian. Has anyone tried downloading Debian's unison-gtk binary (or source) package and installing in Hardy? I'd love to hear if this works or not. If it does, this can be a work- around that we can use as we encourage the ubuntu maintainers to update unison. -- Please upgrade unison to 2.27.57 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194924 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
