[Bug 1950271] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.27-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-11-10 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Looking at the DpkgTerminalLog.txt file, the following excerpt caught my
attention:

 Loaded: loaded (]8;;file://aman-OMEN-by-HP-
Laptop-15-dc0xxx/lib/systemd/system/mysql.service/lib/systemd/system/mysql.service]8;;;
enabled; vendor preset: enabled)

I don't understand this filename. Did you replace the original
mysql.service by your own version of it, perhaps?

Also, I see quite a lot of "Permission denied" errors both in the
DpkgTerminalLog.txt and in the mysql.error.log.txt files. You mentioned
you followed "many blogs on the net", but did you follow the official
documentation regarding resetting the root password?

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/resetting-permissions.html

We at least need to know what exactly you did in your system in order to
reach this state. Also, bear in mind that we do not support
instructions given by third-party, and if these instructions broke your
system then you will likely need to reach out to them and ask for help.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem
with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu
rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug
status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:
