How did you originally get the rtl8185 wifi driver? For example were you
prompted to install a restricted driver which was automatically installed?

rtl-wifi implementation was included into 2.6.22-generic kernel by default.
official one can be downloaded from

the driver is distributed under GPL, so i hope
btw, that driver seems to be from rtl-wifi project. howewer an official
one exists and doesnt seem to have such problems. why not to use it by
default?
