The cause seems to be that is not possible to cancel a task (downloading
emails...), even clicking on cancel...
So when evolution tries to close, it waits until all the tasks are complete...
which can be long if :
- there is a bug in the program which make the task uncompletable
- there is a

To be honest, I am using thunderbird 3 alpha 1, since this evolution
problem was very annoying.
I will retry.

Just open evolution, let it run for a while and then try to close it.
When I close evolution immediately after it has scanned for new
messages, it usually exists without problems.
I have two IMAP accounts configured.

Sorry, I was unavailable for a while...
It seems you need to enable apport: open a terminal, and 'sudo gedit
/etc/default/apport'; change 'enabled' from zero to 1, and save.
Then try again, with a SIGSEGV (kill -SEGV `pidof evolution` should do
the trick). This should kick apport.

I just did what you said, but nothing happens (except evolution is

Instead of killing evolution, you can also shut it down using
evolution --force-shutdown
this works for me but I get a warning about this shutdown when I restart
evolution.

Ah well...
@Adriaan: we actually want to kill evo, so that a backtrace would be
generated. Unfortunately, apport does not kick in... 'evolution --force-
shutdown' is almost the same as a 'kill' on evo and its components, this
is why you get the warning when you restart. But it is still not a nice

Hello ringostar,
Unfortunately the backtrace is missing most of the symbols -- and, as
such, it is unusable.
Perhaps a better option would be to allow apport (the automagic bug
filler) to deal with it.
You should be able to force apport to kick in by sending a (for example)
SIGSEGV to
Hello,

hello ringostar,
It seems you forgot to execute 'bt full', followed by 'thread apply all
bt full' on your GDB run. We can see the error (IO error 11 on X :0.0),
but we have no idea of what caused it.
Please run it again, and also attach here your ~/.xsession-errors and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.
I did it in my first post -

Is this ok ?
I try to desactivate email indexing for Evolution
