I now see this working properly. put manual IP in using the latest updates and it is placing the auto eth0 in. Confirm. Ubuntu 8.04 Network-Manager 0.6.6 When setting static ip, No connection without manually adding: auto eth0 To file: /etc/network/interfaces and restarting network.
