'reboot=b' appended to the kernel does cause it to reboot as expected,
yes. So far I have only tried post-install and not during-install.
attached is the output of dmidecode and also /var/log/dmesg (line 558? I
saw some output during boot about disabling reboot)

This is usually a matter of adding a quirk for your machine. Does adding
the 'reboot=b' kernel parameter help?
Please attach the output of 'sudo dmidecode'.
