J. Wood, can you tell us how to duplicate the problem to get Alltray to
spin the CPU? I suspect that it may be a different problem than
originally reported, but would need more information to be sure.

Yeah, sure. The problem seems to be very sporadic.
I installed alltray. From there I went into Thunderbird's launcher (on my gnome
panel) and added the lines alltray -stask thunderbird to the COMMAND line.

OK. Could you run alltray with the -d option and the next time you have
this problem, attach the output from it? In a terminal, for example,
run:
alltray -d -stask thunderbird .logs/alltray-thunderbird

I upgraded to your PPA version and confirm that on my system the CPU
loading issue is fixed. I am running Ubuntu Hardy 64, and TBird 2.0.0.14

Same problem here with hardy. I also start skype with alltray. Besides, if I
start thunderbird with alltray (alltray -na thunderbird), thunderbird opens but
won't minimize, it starts with open window.
Because of 100 % CPU load the fan won't quit running...

Please try using the version I have built on my PPA:

This bug is caused by the (original) clash for bug 106583 and bug
178541, so if using the build I have in my PPA works for you, please
comment back here to let me know that the problem has gone away.
