Please make sure to install the debug symbols for xserver and -ati when
creating backtraces. Also make sure to do 'backtrace full' so it
includes calling parameters and local variables. See

The debug symbols did not appear to be in the Ubuntu packages, and bt
full is indeed what produced the above output. I used the directions on
that page. Would I need to replace the xserver and -ati packages with
alternate ones built with debug symbols?

I think you may be right with the pulseaudio thing.
What do you see in /var/log/messages after a freeze?
I get the same problems with a bunch of errors from pulse audio.
