Public bug reported: Hi, I have noticed a problem with Hardy Heron. I am not sure exactly how to describe this problem, but I will do my best. I apologize in advance if I am not clear. This problem seems to occur whenever I bring my system back up after a long standby period. The OS boots up fine and I can log in, but I cannot start any of my applications. For example, earlier today I was trying to check my bank account balance so I tried to open up firefox. The system appeared to be active for a few seconds but firefox never started. I looked in the system monitor and found firefox listed under the process tab and its status said sleeping. I tried to start firefox a second time and once again there was another entry in the system monitor, but its status also said sleeping. I ended both processes and attempted to start firefox again but the same thing happened. The same problem also occurred with the evolution mail program. I was also unable to log out or shutdown the machine. It seems that any processes started prior to the long standby period continue to function, but no new processes can be started.
