I'm currently having this same problem with .php files. They used to
work, but something went wrong with the newest Intrepid updates.

Here is a sample Fortran-90 file with the .f suffix.
It does not get syntax-highlighted in the system configuration attached to the
bug description.

Reopening this bug. In Ubuntu Hardy, just attempt to open a .f files
using gedit. It should by default be highlighted in the same way as .for
files.
On my system I can see that there is no entry in /etc/mime.types for
fortran source code. There is text/x-csrc for C code, and text/x-c++src
for C++
We are closing this bug report as it lacks the information, described in
the previous comments, we need to investigate the problem further.
However, please reopen it if you can give us the missing information and
don't hesitate to submit bug reports in the future.
