[Bug 235946] Re: No Appropriate Viewer Error in Hardy 64

2011-03-29 Thread Miles Lane
I have just encountered this problem. I tried the workaround mentioned above:
   $ sudo apt-get purge ia32-libs
   $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
but it did not fix the problem for me.

@Miles, I just opened a bug for natty, if you wouldn't mind marking it
as affecting you as well, that would be fantastic. It's over at bug

Confirming that Dustin Kirkland's workaround ( sudo apt-get purge
ia32-libs ; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree ) works for me on
Ubuntu Jaunty x86_64. Thanks

2009-03-25 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Okay, I was able to solve this with:
 $ sudo apt-get purge ia32-libs
 $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Can you try this on your Hardy/intrepid systems and see if this solves
the problem for you?

2008-09-18 Thread bertvv
I have th-e same problem that klnusbaum reports, on Hardy AMD64. I tried
to install the backports version of flashplugin-nonfree
(10.0.1.218+10.0.0.525ubuntu1~hardy1+really9.0.124.0ubuntu2), but I get
the no appropriate viewer after the installation.

2008-08-14 Thread klnusbaum
My flash was working just fine up until a few days ago. Then firefox
started running extremely slow. It took 20 seconds to load any page that
had flash in it. I ran firefox from the terminal and noticed it was
flash that was segfaulting. I uninstalled the flashplugin-nonfree
package and when I tried to install it again I got the same error
message. I'm running Hardy AMD64.

[Bug 235946] Re: No Appropriate Viewer Error in Hardy 64

2008-05-30 Thread Tom Clift
I am also running into this issue on Kubuntu Hardy x86_64 when installing
flashplugin-nonfree, although I see one extra error line:

Flash Plugin installed.
*** NSPlugin Viewer *** preloader not found
nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

The same error is reproducible when running 'nspluginwrapper -i'
manually.

nspluginwrapper version: 0.9.91.6-1ubuntu1

It looks like the 'no appropriate viewer' error is printed after a non-
ok status is returned from 'detect_plugin_viewer' in nspluginwrapper's
npw-config.c.

If I had to guess, I would say in my case the viewer is trying to run
but encounters some kind of error ('preloader not found'), and in
stephenb's case, the viewer is either not found or has some different
kind of error (one that doesn't print out any error messages).

Funny that the version in the repository seems to be newer than the
latest announced version on the maintainer's website =)

[Bug 235946] Re: No Appropriate Viewer Error in Hardy 64

2008-05-30 Thread stephenb
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nspluginwrapper

I had flash working in Feisty. But after upgrading to Hardy, I cannot
  install it because of this:

- Flash Plugin installed.
- nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
- dpkg: error processing flashplugin-nonfree (--configure):
- subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
- Errors were encountered while processing:
- flashplugin-nonfree
- E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
+ Flash Plugin installed.
+ nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
+ dpkg: error processing flashplugin-nonfree (--configure):
+ subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
+ Errors were encountered while processing:
+ flashplugin-nonfree
+ E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I have tried downgrading to ia32-libs 2.1 to no affect. I have tried the
last deb of nspluginwrapper (0.9.91.6_amd64) to no affect.

Please note that I copied /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
  to /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so

- Then I ran this:
- sudo nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so
+ Then I ran this:
+
+ sudo nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib/firefox-
+ addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so

But I got the same error:
- nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for
/usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so
+
+ nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib/firefox-
+ addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so

I hadn't ever seen this error until I upgraded to Hardy. Now that I look
around, it seems that people were getting it in Gutsy, so it's nothing
new. And yet it's still around and it's turned up in Hardy.
+
+ UPDATE:
+ OK, I just noticed that I'm getting these kinds of errors every time I try to
install or run nspluginwrapper:
+
+ npviewer.bin[14073]: segfault at 0 rip 0 rsp ffcb6ae0 error 14
