The out of space issue seems wonky, but other than that it sounds like
the crashes are gone so I'll close the bug. Feel free to report a new
one about the space issue, and please reopen this bug if after resolving
that, the crash issue is still there.

Bryce,
So: if I download the beta of Intrepid
http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-beta-desktop-amd64.iso,
burn it and live-boot it, then activatte fglrx, I should have the new
version that I should test?

PS:
I'm running 8.04 AMD64 on my system. As I use fglrx (see dmesg snippets) and
I haven't seen crashes lately, does this mean the bug is already gone?

I've live-booted Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit Beta which works OK. However, the update
itself was not OK: only a partial update was possible, and even that partial
update went wrong. The update-GUI said I had to run sudo dpkg --configure
-a because of the errors, but that was not possible:

Good day Sander,
I've just uploaded a new 8.543 version of -fglrx to Intrepid which now should
work with xserver 1.5. Would you mind testing this new version and reporting
back whether this issue is still present? If it is, it would be helpful if you
could (re-)post your Xorg.0.log from

Dereck,
How do you know it's a Compiz problem? I thougth it could be ati-driver or
gdm related?
