[Bug 240980] Re: nvidia-setting cannot identify driver
From: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=109030highlight=nvidia-settings ( AaronP NVIDIA Corporation)
That's right. Xgl does not support the NV-CONTROL extension that nvidia-settings needs. You may be able to use the -c option to nvidia-settings to have it display on Xgl but control the underlying Xorg server, but that typically doesn't work due to the access controls set on the parent server. From your bug report log, the NVIDIA driver appears to be running fine.
:~# ps -A | grep Xgl 9034 tty1 00:00:00 Xgl-lockfile-wr 9039 tty1 00:01:28 Xgl Could this be the problem? ** Attachment added: nvidia-bug-report.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15480788/nvidia-bug-report.log -- nvidia-setting cannot identify driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240980 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 240980] Re: nvidia-setting cannot identify driver
nvidia-xconfig was not and is not installed. I didn't think it was supposed to be, so I checked for contention/dependencies before I took the error message's suggestion, and reported what I found. the xorg.conf is essentially the same one used on OEL(RHEL) 4.5 and 5.1 that boot on the same system, and it works for them. nvidia-settings does launch, produces the error message, and then offers a very limited sidebar selection, cntaining only nvidia-settings Configuration-notheing about configuring the xorg.conf file. I also run a 32 bit Hardy with single nvidia graphics adapter, and use envyNG without any problems. -- nvidia-setting cannot identify driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240980 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
