I'm no longer using Gutsy and can't reproduce the problem on Hardy or
Intrepid. Please close this bug report.

[Bug 244651] Re: High upload data rates displayed by system monitor

2008-08-11 Thread KevinM
Hi, I've tried both wireshark and netstat -pant. Attached is the output from
netstat. BOINC is currently suspended. I ran netstat many times and nothing
new occurred (even though I had high uploads at the time according to conky on
my wireless connection eth1). 127.0.0.1 is being used for Hotmail.
I'm not sure how to open the capture file for Wireshark (I ran it as root).
However looking at all the IPs Canonical came up a few times (91.189.94.249 and
91.189.94.183 which was probably due to updates being available for 7.10). I
even opened up a webpage and only 212.58.226.73/75 and 212.58.227.137 appeared
(which are assigned to the BBC/webpage that I opened). The wireless signal is
strong and the quality is good, so it can't be that. The problem is very
strange as I don't get the problem with Hardy or Intrepid using the same
hardware. Any other suggestions ?

[Bug 244651] Re: High upload data rates displayed by system monitor

2008-08-10 Thread KevinM
It doesn't occur in Hardy or Intrepid on the same PC. What is very strange is
that with no external connections the uploads were still occurring. Do you
know of any good guides for wireshark ? Do I need to run both packages
together or just one ?
This machine does not have bluetooth as standard (I have a USB stick for that).
I do have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard (could that cause the problem
in Gutsy only ?)
Thanks in advance
Kevin.

[Bug 244651] Re: High upload data rates displayed by system monitor

2008-08-09 Thread bascule
Hi, thanks for reporting.

I could only suggest that you run a packet-sniffer (I would recommend
wireshark) and netstat -pant to see where this data is going to and
coming from, it is very strange I have to say, and also a little
worrying.

[Bug 244651] Re: High upload data rates displayed by system monitor

2008-07-01 Thread KevinM
This problem does not occur with Intrepid Alpha1 64 bit on the same
machine (as shown by using ifconfig in terminal). If I use ifconfig, in
7.10, as soon as the connection to my router is made, I get 4.6kb
received and 6.5Mb sent as shown in attached file.
