Daily-live of 9/12/2008 loaded on AMD64 X2 64 and memtest v2.01 now seems to be
fixed.
Been running for several hours and no errors. This on an abit motherboard with
4GB of
Kingston memory with AMD64 at 2.5GHz clock speed.
Thanks for the fix.

I've confirmed that building with -O1 instead of -Os (as done in
Mandriva) works, so will upload that shortly.

I can confirm that the intrepid release candidates ( as of the September
download ) have this problem with machines across the board. Memtest
2.01 fails on lower memory, to the point it crashes and locks up on a
Dell Latitude CPx and a home built Dual Core Athlon that are stable. (
under 8.04
Probably the same bug (GCC 4.3 issue):

Mandriva fails to say where it was reported upstream, and what was made as a
workaround.
I believe it is at:
http://forum.x86-secret.com/showthread.php?t=8286
Workaround used: I did recompile memtest in -01 and it works again.
Looks like memtest 2.01 compiled in -Os and gcc 4.3.1 have some

Same problem with Intrepid Alpha 4 AMD64. I run memory test from this CD
in Acer Aspire 5720G (with 1 GB of RAM) and have many errors. But
Memtest86+ v2.01 from memtest.org work fine.

Hi there,
I don't know if this is the right discussion to get mixed in, since I am
an absolute newbie in unix. Still I wanted to report my story. I
purchased this Acer laptop about two years ago I think, could be three,
I don't recall exactly. I had Vista home basic installed or something
I can also confirm this issue.
I ran it from the CD and from my installed Intrepid systems and as soon
as test 2 started, a lot of errors appeared, the screen got eventually
cleared by the error's appearing speed and it eventually halted with a
memory error making a loud beep
It's nice to see

Same here.
New motherboard: I ran it and got a ton of errors.
I then tested with 1 stick of ram... a different set of ram... all
slots... a different CPU... I was starting to freak.
Then I let it run the 1.70 version that is included in the boot manager
for the 8.04.1... no problems.
OOPS. SO
I have thousands on errors in the first MB with memtest 2.20 (I think) from x86
Intrepid Alpha 4.
Where no errors is detected with 1.70 (Hardy).

I can confirm this. (Is there anyone who can not?)
This should definitively be fixed for intrepid release. People could
spend money due to this false alarm.
