Does playback actually stop, or does Rhythmbox appear unresponsive for a
period (causing the playback to halt)? The reason I ask, is because if
it is the latter, then it might be this upstream problem:

No .. it just stops. If I click play again, it starts playing from the
ipod...it doesn't resume.
