[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2011-09-17 Thread Andrei Dziahel
~andersonbessa:
You can use multiple accounts, but all account need to support the invisible
 status.
Well, I've just experimented with chat accounts a bit, and discovered a
workaround which works for me.
Preamble. So I have some jabber accounts (most of them are googletalk-hosted),
one yahoo account and one salut account. When salut account is enabled, other
jabber accounts change status to busy instead of hidden. As I've disabled
salut account, other jabber accounts started to change their status to hidden.

So, workaround is following — disable salut, change status to hidden,
enable salut back (if you want to).

Should I file a bug like 'salut makes gabble accounts unable to set
status hidden'?

2011-05-01 Thread Matt Giuca
I agree, that's not ideal (one account does not support invisibility,
and invisibility is disabled across all of Empathy). But that is not
this bug -- this bug is already fixed.

Ankur/Rushi, I suggest you file a new bug about this problem, which can
be voted on and fixed independently of this one (and would probably be
considered less critical). Be sure to link to here so it's clear it
isn't a duplicate of this one, and link from here to there so interested
parties can follow the new bug.

[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2011-03-17 Thread Mari
I have this issue. I do NOT use GTalk on Empathy, I only use AIM, MSN,
and Y!M. When I set my status to invisible in empathy it sets me to
busy. Repetitively. It never stays as invisible/hidden for more than a
few seconds before it changes to busy again. And I do not even have the
option to change it from the user panel once it sets it there, it shows
me in my user panel as busy and upon attempting to go to invisible does
absolutely nothing. I am using Lucid LTS, completely updated and
everything. It's never bothered me before because I didn't use messenger
often but I am using it much more now, and this is an absolute pain.

For an LTS there *needs to be a way* for people to upgrade to a fixed
functionality. Please make this available as a backport, PPA or
*something*. The 'Me Menu' is a major feature of Lucid and very visible
on the desktop and right now the availability functions don't work at
all in this friends machine i'm working on -- it seems permanently stuck
on available. For some people that is very worrisome because they
don't want their IM accounts to say they are 'available' all the time.
I can't say to my friend you're out of luck -- get used to having this
broken me menu in your face as long as you stick with Lucid. That's
just not okay.

As long as Empathy doesn't inform me about the fact that it can't set my

Sebastian, Omer, thanks for the input. I am not sure to understand. The
empathy GUI dully marks me as hidden--as long as I click 2x on the

Do you mean the Facebook contacts can see me, even though my status is

This problem was happening with me too (Ubuntu 10.04). In empathy there
was 2 accounts actived: my msn account and a account for local
messaging.

When I disabled the local messaging and let just the msn account active
now when I set invisible, appear invisible in Indicator Applet Session.
Before I do that the Indicator Applet Session appeared as Busy when I
changed my status in Empathy for invisible. However my real status in
msn for other contacts I was offline, I think that appeared busy because
local messaging don't have support for Invisible.

Sorry for my english, I'm just trying to help.

2010-04-13 Thread McIvor
Lucid Beta 2, MSN seems to be having this problem. Using either Empathy
or the MeMenu, status is shown as Offline but the menus say Busy. Also,
if I leave it for a while, it shows in the contact list as Busy (not
sure how long this takes, though).

Pasted in XMPP console for GoogleTalk account makes you invisible:

presence
priority5/priority
/presence
presence type=unavailable
priority5/priority
/presence

Actually it changes status to unavailable but GoogleTalk server tries
to deliver the message anyway so it works as invisibility (kind of). It
depends on the other side's client if it's user sees you on-line or off-
line after the successful message delivery (you should be off-line,
though).

I totally agree!
This is quite a serious issue and should be treated. I think open source
solutions are available.. as far as I know pidgin has the invisible-status
implemented for google chat. Amore informative solutino would be, if it
would display diferent statuses when it actually has different statuses...

[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2010-03-21 Thread _khAttAm_
Does not work with Gmail addresses. This feature is available with Gmail
(I mean Gmail supports invisible status), since I can set status
invisible with chat applet on Gmail and it works, but it does not seem
to be implemented with Empathy.

It is currently working with Yahoo and MSN on my Lucid Lynx Beta 1 with
Empathy 2.29.13-ubuntu2, but the Global status shows busy when I am
using Gmail account with along it. When I log out of Gmail account and
keep only the Yahoo and MSN accounts logged in, the global status
changes to Invisible. This might not be a bug though.

However, there is yet another simple issue with Yahoo. When I set my
status to invisible, it works. But when I have a look at it via
EditAccounts, it displays me as Available while I am invisible.

Facebook and GTalk don't have an invisible status (in their actual chat
programs). AIM doesn't have a busy state IIRC. It may be important to
list the statuses that are natively supported and place it on a wiki or
something along those lines and have it for future reference. IDK where
on the Ubuntu wiki we would put such a table though.
