there are multiple issues listed here, so this bug is getting confusing.
Harry, your lshal reveals that your trackpad should use the synaptics
driver, so I'm not sure what's wrong there. Xorg.0.log would help.
The slow movement bug is bug 262276, and the mouse prefs has been fixed
to use input
Oh, and this bug seems to be fixed since the fdi file now recognizes
appletouch devices, so marking as fixed. Open new bugs or search the
synaptics buglist for a match if you still have issues.

I think I have the similar problem.
I have an Asus Z3F laptop, with :

and the touchpad also does not work at all.
I will attach lshw and lshal output, please let me know if you need

In the 2008-09-01 live CD the trackpad responds to input, but moves
extremely slowly (~13 complete horizontal wipes required to move from
one side of the screen to the other, and ~26 to move from the top to the
bottom), and the Touchpad tab is still missing from the Mouse

should recognize appletouch now.
