I have the same problem, but I do not notice my computer getting warmer. I have Xubuntu 9.10 and the lastest last.fm player (1.5.1...). If I get some time, I will report it to Last.fm too. Other sound seems to work when Last.fm fails, so it is either some Pulse problem or within the player itself.
