[Bug 259698] Re: pptp vpn service stops unexpectedly
By using MPPE encryption in NetworkManager, PAP CHAP and EAP are automatically grayed out leaving only MSCHAP and MSCHAPv2 active. This configuration does not work returning the error message PPTP service has stopped that everyone here is facing. A workaround that works for me is to deactivate MSCHAP as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259698 Title: pptp vpn service stops unexpectedly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pptp-linux/+bug/259698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm using 16.04 Xubuntu. I.ve installed it on my new computer and I can't connect to VPN. Later I used to connect to that VPN from my old pc with 14.04 Xubuntu and everything was ok. I'm having the same issue. Used to work on Ubuntu 16.04, and then somehow failed. I have a Ubuntu 12.04 next to me a it connects to the same PPTP with success. I have attached a syslog of both machines. Let me know if I can test anything else. [Bug 259698] Re: pptp vpn service stops unexpectedly
I am using GalliumOS for my chromebook, which is an *buntu derivative. I was checking permissions my user had in "Users and Groups" gui. "Connect to wireless and ethernet networks" was not checked. I checked it and saved. Retried connecting to my PPTP vpn and it worked. [Bug 259698] Re: pptp vpn service stops unexpectedly
I am getting the same error but am using vpnc instead of pptp. I have manually setup /etc/vpnc/default.conf so that sudo vpnc connects to the VPN okay. The problem occurs when trying to do the same thing through the NetworkManager - I selected VPN Connections=Configure VPN and added the same information I used in /etc/vpnc/default.conf. But when I try to connect to the VPN I get the same error message reported above.
