After discussing with team MOTU and comparing with similar bugs, we came
to the conclusion that the the version in Edgy fixes this. Closing the
bug.

Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) having been released yesterday, could you upgrade and
confirm whether the cups-pdf version in Edgy solves this issue?

As reported in bug 42147, cups-pdf 2.4.2-1 finally closed the issue for
a number of people. Does it also work in your case?

cups-pdf 2.4.1-2, which incorporates the above fix, was just uploaded to
Edgy (Ubuntu 6.10).

Looking at other bugs for this package, I suspect that this is caused by
the recent change in user privilege handling in CUPS.
Can you try the following from a terminal:
sudo chmod +s /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf
Then restart CUPS.
Does this fix it for you?
