Have u checked the settings in /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf? usbmount is
the package responsible for usb automount.
/etc/udev/rules.d/62-usbmount.rules calls /usr/share/usbmount/usbmount
to mount usb devices.
It took me ages to find out that it will only mount ext2 and ext3 filesystem
which is
Hi,
None of the files/directories you mention exist in Hardy, as far as I can tell.
Are you sure your suggestion is relevant for Hardy?
I also don't think it has anything to do with ext3 vs vfat. The problem
appears to be further up the chain. I have a hardy laptop at home that
mounts my vfat

yes this is a bug. Both the settings in gconf-editor are set to true for
me and I have the behaviour that I described above. I posted the
detailed debugging above info over 4 months ago now, so I'm guessing
that nobody has looked at it and probably nobody intends to. However, I
am prepared to

Run gconf-editor and navigate to the key
/apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount and
/apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount_open and set them both to

This is one of the problems that made me upgrade to intrepid, clean
install this time (except for the /home partition). Inttrepid has not
the problem with USB mounting. Maybe this bug manifests only after
gutsy--hardy upgrade, i really don't know. Didn't try clean install of
hardy.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Thanks in advance.

still an issue for me. If I found a solution to the problem, I would
certainly post it. I'm willing to put more time into generating
debugging output for this bug if an expert is willing to help.

Hi all,
I have just spent many hours trawling the many, many ubuntu bugs about
usb disks. Looks like this has been a serious regression in hardy. This
bug best describes my problems, so I am putting info here in the hope
that it will actually be looked at and resolved. This is a bug for a LTS

I see the same bug:
I have been running hardy for a while now and it used to work until very
recently. (Sept 11/08, it was working normally last week) Likely something in
the recent patches broke this functionality. The drive used to appear
automagically, now I have to go to the Places menu
