2.6.27-9-generic. It worked fine in Hardy; it stopped after the first

Can confirm this still as of 10/22/08 cant change or edit system sounds.
Ones from hardy still work though.

Same on my amd64 system with 2.6.27-3.
In case it's relevant, when I run gnome-sound-properties it tells me:
(gnome-sound-properties:17284): sound-properties-WARNING **: Bad setup,
install the freedesktop sound theme
