that's not a totem bugs, those effects are gstreamer one and require
ressources to be rendered, there is already some bugs about the need to
optimize the cpu usage so closing this one

that's not reproducible here, the quantity of cpu usage that i get here
is about 4% which is nothing and with the GOOM visualization plugin is
about 20% which is far away from the 70% that you get, are you using a
visualization plugin or just plain totem? which video card do you have?

It happens for all audio. I found the problem : the visualization takes
up too much cpu power. You can probably reproduce it by using GOOM
extra large (you might have to restart totem to see it).

It's totem specific. It doesn't happen with rhythmbox or gst-
launch-0.10. It happens for mp3 and ogg with short clips and long
clips. It seems like totem has this problem with all audio (mp3's and
ogg's). Even video files are using less cpu (also in totem).

of file are you trying to reproduce with totem? do you get the same if
you see the file with: gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/file
