that's not reproducible here, the quantity of cpu usage that i get here is about 4% which is nothing and with the GOOM visualization plugin is about 20% which is far away from the 70% that you get, are you using a visualization plugin or just plain totem? which video card do you have? which

It's totem specific. It doesn't happen with rhythmbox or gst- launch-0.10. It happens for mp3 and ogg with short clips and long clips. It seems like totem has this problem with all audio (mp3's and ogg's). Even video files are using less cpu (also in totem). Here are some files I experience
