It happens for all audio. I found the problem : the visualization takes up too much cpu power. It's totem specific. It doesn't happen with rhythmbox or gst- launch-0.10. It happens for mp3 and ogg with short clips and long clips. It seems like totem has this problem with all audio (mp3's and ogg's). Even video files are using less cpu (also in totem).
