starting openvpn tunnels from the KDE NetworkManager plasma applet?

particular desktop feature that made the whole app completely unusable.
Because upstream changed, this never got fixed. Yet again, F* the user,
developers are more important.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been
discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that
there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be
limited to those fixing
Any progress here?

Maybe I misunderstand the principles of ubuntus QA, and what upgrades of

I believe I am seeing a very similar if not the same issue both on
client and server configurations.

I get the same problem, and setting up a conf file was a bit problematic

prefer to have knetworkmanager take care of it.

Same symptoms here, on Kubuntu Intrepid (KDE 4.1):
$ tail -f /var/log/syslog
Dec 9 11:36:05 hani NetworkManager: info Starting VPN service
'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn'...

Same here (connecting manually via /usr/sbin/openvpn works):
$ tail -f /var/log/syslog
Nov 10 10:47:33 localhost NetworkManager: info Starting VPN service
'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn'...
Nov 10 10:47:33 localhost NetworkManager: info VPN service
The error messages shown has changed a bit, now the only thing printed
after I tell Knetworkmanager to start VPN, is:
Oct 23 08:52:33 envy NetworkManager: WARN
wait_for_connection_expired(): Connection (2)
/org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/Connection/2 failed to activate
(timeout): (0)
Nevermind, just tried after deinstalling the GNOME applet and rebooting.
Now the error is again the segfault in nm-openvpn-serv.
