This issue has been resolved; in the past week there has been no such
boot after a kernel update (I suppose - there were a lot of updates!).
Marking this as fixed.

Intrepid doesn't start, screen shows ... cubistic
This happens a lot and given that I have to turn off the computer the
nasty way which can't be good for it i'd love to get some feedback. I've
checked the system logs but it seems like they all start logging after
the error so i couldn't find any line - really weird.
Any help is appreciated
given that the computer doesn't boot at all it's more the kernel that's
affected/causing it than usplash... but I'm not sure here so any inputs
are appreciated.

seems to happen randomly that is the last boot was ok, but right now
it's showing the very same problem again. don't know what's going on. a
different problem is currently keeping me from being able to post log
files or so here, sorry.
